Windermere Elementary School PTO’s Science committee works to promote interest and participation in the sciences, technology, and mathematics at Windermere Elementary School.
The PTO’s Conservation program helps Windermere Elementary School and its students become more environmentally conscious. We want to nurture sustainable habits and appreciation for the natural environment that we all share.
The program works to avoid the use of single-use plastics wherever possible in all school events and activities, instead focusing on reusable, recyclable, or composting products. It publicizes events like International Walk to School Day and National Bike to School Day.
To build awareness of the impact we have on our Earth and how we can contribute to environmental action in our community our students design a special Earth Day t-shirt each year which we sell to raise money for an environmental cause such as sea turtle conservation.
The fabulous Learning Garden is north of the school’s PE pavilion. It has raised vegetable and herb beds, an arbor, and a grove of fruiting trees.
Our Makerspace program is located in Windermere Elementary School’s Media Center’s southwest room. Different grade levels have access specific mornings before school starts throughout the year.
The Science committee supports the animals in the Zoo Crew with food and supplies.
